Delayed Egress Magnetic Lock w/ Exterior Switch Application

Maximize perimeter security and operational efficiency with our Delayed Egress Magnetic Lock with Exterior Switch Applications. This configuration provides the ultimate theft-deterrent solution for retail and healthcare environments while offering a seamless entry point for authorized personnel. By pairing a professional delayed egress mag lock with an external keyswitch or card reader, you can bypass the exit alarm for daily operations while maintaining a code-compliant, 15-second delay for unauthorized traffic.

Delayed Egress Magnetic Lock w/ Exterior Switch Application

System Operation:

This application manages two distinct traffic flows: unauthorized "delayed" exits and authorized "bypass" entries.

  • The door shall be normally closed and secured by a delayed egress electromagnetic lock.
  • The locking device shall be designed so that any attempt to egress during non-emergency situations shall initiate an irreversible 15 second delay be fore allowing the locking device to release.
  • The irreversible delay shall be initiated by no more than 15 lbs of force continuously applied to the release hardware for a period not to exceed three seconds.
  • Initiation of the delayed egress cycle shall activate a signal that the system is functional.
  • Authorized egress and system reset shall be allowed by using the key to deactivate it on the electromagnetic lock.
  • Ingress shall be allowed by exterior switch.
  • The system shall include a mandatory self-adhering sign for application to the egress side of the door.
  • The lock shall interface with an approved supervised fire system for immediate release upon fire emergency activation.

Operations Summary:

  • Secured State: The 1200lb magnetic lock is energized, securing the door. The internal sensors monitor for pressure on the door from the inside.
  • Delayed Exit (Unauthorized): If an occupant pushes the door, a 15 or 30-second countdown begins with a local alarm. After the delay, the magnet releases for egress.
  • Authorized Entry (Bypass): From the exterior, a staff member uses a keyswitch or credential reader. This immediately drops power to the lock without triggering the alarm or the delay timer.
  • Authorized Exit: Staff can also use the exterior switch (or an interior bypass switch) to exit without triggering the local siren, allowing for "quiet" traffic during business hours.
  • Manual Reset: Following a delayed egress event, an authorized key s used at the exterior or local cylinder to reset the alarm and re-arm the magnet.
  • Life Safety Integration: Like all fail-safe systems, the lock releases immediately upon fire alarm activation or total power loss.

Delayed Egress Magnetic Locks

The SDC 1511S Exit Check is an industry-leading self-contained delayed egress lock. It features a built-in alarm, a visual countdown display, and is field-adjustable for 15 or 30-second delays. It is designed to meet all national building and fire codes for "Access Controlled Egress Doors."
