Exterior Door Electrified Exit Device w/ Key Switch Application

ELR Exit Device & Automatic Door Operator Configurations

Secure your building’s perimeter with our Exterior Electrified Exit Device with Key Switch Applications. This setup combines the strength of a Grade 1 electrified panic bar with the precision of a mortise key switch for authorized entry. Ideal for schools, industrial facilities, and retail centers, this configuration allows staff to manually bypass electronic locks or "dog" the doors open for high-traffic events using a physical high-security key.

Exterior Door Electrified Exit Device w/ Key Switch Application

System Operation:

This application utilizes a mechanical key interface to trigger the electronic release of the exit hardware .

            • The door is normally closed and latched.
            • Free egress is permitted at all times.
            • Door opened from exterior  by key switch that activates latch retraction.
            • Door can be electronically dogged by key switch for "day mode" free entry.

System Summary:

  • Secured State: The door remains locked from the exterior. The electrified exit device is fully latched, and the exterior trim is disabled or rigid.
  • Authorized Keyed Entry: An authorized user inserts a physical key into the exterior mortise key switch and turns it.
  • Electronic Activation: The switch sends a signal to the power supply, which momentarily unlocks the electrified trim or retracts the latch (ELR).
  • Maintained Bypass (Optional): Many key switches can be set to "Maintained" mode, allowing the door to remain electronically unlocked for deliveries or shift changes until the key is turned back.
  • Standard Egress: From the interior, the mechanical push bar always allows for immediate, one-motion exit, ensuring full compliance with life-safety codes.
  • Rugged Reliability: By using a mortise cylinder, you ensure the system is resistant to tampering and environmental wear, common in exterior applications.

Electrified Exit Devices & Outside Trims

Beyond standard Request to Exit (REX) signaling, our electrified hardware offers advanced monitoring and control options for any architectural opening. Latchbolt Monitoring and Signal Switches provide real-time feedback on door status, while [link] Motorized Electric Latch Retraction (MELR) and Electric Dogging allow for seamless integration with automatic operators and high-traffic scheduling. For entry control, our Electrified Outside Exit Trims provide a secure, brand-specific way to manage exterior access without replacing the entire device. For high-security environments, Delayed Egress functionality deters unauthorized exit without compromising life-safety codes. Each of these configurations is available with Windstorm and Hurricane certification, ensuring the technical specifications and mounting hardware meet the most rigorous coastal building requirements.
