This trim corresponds to Sargent Function 43 (ANSI Function 08): Freewheeling Trim — Key Outside Unlocks/Locks. When locked, the outside lever spins freely (freewheeling) rather than applying force to the mechanism. A key in the outside cylinder unlocks or locks the trim, allowing the lever to retract the latch. Inside egress via the panic bar is always free and unrestricted, regardless of the trim's locked state — a fundamental requirement for exit device hardware in all occupancy types.
