Shop Wide Throw Hinges by Size
A wide throw hinge uses a wider leaf than a standard 4-1/2 x 4-1/2 in butt so the door clears a deep frame, a transom, or a thick reveal and still opens 180 degrees.
The extra width is the whole point: 5, 6, 7, or 8 inch leaves on 3-1/2, 4-1/2, and 5 inch heights. A standard 4-1/2 x 4-1/2 full-mortise butt binds on a deep reveal; a wide throw swings the door past the frame and trim. McKinney T4A3786 (steel, heavy weight) and T4A3386 (stainless) cover the heavy-duty sizes. TA2798 and TA2398 cover standard weight. Each size has a mill template for the door and frame prep.
